Blogging with Word 2007: Part II

by Jason on February 26th, 2007

In my previous post about blogging from within Word 2007, I completely relied upon Word for the entire editing of the post.

Within that post though, I expressed a little bit of concern over the code that would be used by Word when posting into the Word press site.

After posting and reviewing the post, I can say that the code itself is pretty clean. The only problem I really had with the code, was actually the formatting and naming of the images that were inserted into the post.

Although you probably can’t tell since you don’t know what I named photos originally, I can guarantee you that I didn’t name them “022607_0323_Bloggingwit1.gif” etc. I’m not sure why Word couldn’t leave file name alone. It got the file in the correct location, please leave my file names alone. I named them what I did for a specific reason, don’t change them!

One area I failed to mention the interface for within Word, is the assignment of categories to your post. It’s very intuitive as well, with the added benefit of automatically pulling in your existing categories from you blog or letting you assign a new one as you need.

The image above also reminded me of one problem I had with Word’s interface of images. The insertion of pictures as a whole was much easier within the Word user experience than directly within WordPress. A problem aside from renaming the file names was also not being able to see the image you’ve inserted into your post.
